Where Do Wastewater and Sewage Come From?

Wastewater is also referred to as sewage. It is the water that has been made impure by addition of poisonous or polluting substances, after it has been used in toilets, showers, washers, dishwashers, sinks and other drains in homes, schools, industries, etc. The polluting substances include urine, fecal matter, detergents, soaps, food particles, toys, paper, and any other item that have been thrown into the drain. The pipes that bring this waste to the wastewater treatment plant are referred to as sewers.

Wastewater treatment is the repeated process (but with breaks in between) of getting rid of the pollutants from the sewage and then with a series of steps produce a byproduct that can be recycled safely.

The main purpose of sewage treatment and wastewater solutions is to take away, as much as possible, the solid particles dispersed through the drain before the effluent (remaining water) is released back to the environment.
